With great emotion and participation, the event «From Mylopotamos, Kythira, to the Glory of the Pindos Epic.» The event was organized by the Mylopotamos Public Works Association, under the auspices of the Kythira Association of Athens.
The presentation was given by Dimitra Pavlaki, while greetings were delivered by the president of the Kythira Association of Athens, Vasso Samiou, and the president of SKEM, Panagiotis Stratigos. The president of the Society of Kythirian Studies, Aikaterini Aroni-Tsichli, provided historical context, highlighting the contribution of the Kythirians on the front lines.
The highlight of the event was the recitation of excerpts from the war diary of Sergeant Emmanouil I. Zervos —Mylopotamitis and fighter of the 20th Infantry Regiment— by actors Emilios Cheilakis and Athina Maximou, transporting the audience to the harsh but heroic landscape of Pindos.
With artistic supervision by Christos V. Kalokairinos (KYTHIRA SOUND – PHOTO CERIGO), images, sound, and narration were combined into a single experiential journey: from the square of Mylopotamos to the snow-covered heights where the people of Kythira fought with self-sacrifice.
The event honored not only historical memory but also the humility and ethos of those people who considered their supreme duty a self-evident obligation to their homeland and future generations.
