Stiff chamomile Boiss ex Heldrsubsp.liguliflora (Halacsy) Greuter

Syn. Anthemis pusilla Greuter subsp. liguliflora (Halacsy) W. Greuter & Rech.f.

Anthemis, the rigid subspecies of glosanthes
Syn.Anthemis, the tiny subspecies of glosanthes
A small pearlwort that grows in rocky areas near the sea, forming a dense carpet. It blooms from March to June.
Its distribution in the South Aegean appears to be limited, with records outside Kythira also found on Amorgos, Kimolos (Kougioumtzis K. 2013) and Karpathos (Georgiou O. 1997). It may be rare or even endangered, but it is not included in the lists of endangered species.
The name of the genus comes from the ancient Greek word anthemis = flower and is used by Dioscorides for chamomile (3.114). The characteristic adjective rigida comes from the Latin adjective rigidus-a-um = rigid. The characteristic adjective pusilla comes from the Latin pusillus-a-um = small. The adjective that characterizes the subspecies liguliflora comes from ligulate = tongue-shaped and flora = flower.
