The Piraeus Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) invites you to a screening of the documentary «A warm November», dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising. The event will take place on Sunday, November 24, at 5:30 p.m., in Fratsia Cultural Center.
This documentary, produced by the KNE, sheds light on the historic events of November 1973, highlighting the militant stance of the youth and the people against the dictatorship. Through rare archival footage and testimonies, it serves as a reminder of the importance of the struggle for democracy, freedom, and social justice.
The event is open to the public, offering an opportunity to honor the spirit of the Polytechnic and to discuss the lessons of the struggle of that era as they apply to today.
🔴«…and suddenly / the warmth of November / brought a touch of summer / in the heart of winter.» These lines are from the poem “A Warm November” by Dimitris Ravanis-Rentis, which also inspired the title of the KNE documentary. This great communist writer, through his poetic lyricism and the humility of style demanded by the magnificent struggles and sacrifices of our people, a chronicle of the heroic uprising at the Polytechnic. Similarly, in the KNE documentary, we seek to “capture on film” the atmosphere of those days—the people’s struggle against the dictatorship and the actions of the KKE and the KNE.
🔴Through a combination of documentary footage, archival material, animation, and interviews with “key figures” of the era, to be transported back to the period of the military junta, to experience firsthand what led up to the great uprising, as well as the days inside the Polytechnic, unraveling the story of that heroic struggle. They will journey from Mavili Square and the discussions of a group of students right under the noses of the police all the way to the “island of death” at Gyaros, from the brutal torture at Bouboulinas to the activist searching for a piece of a paperclip to fashion—with breadcrumbs—yet another pawn for the makeshift chess game of exile, from the hideouts of the underground publishing network of “Odigitis” and “Panspoudastiki,” to the factory where workers gave what little they had from their meager earnings to the communists who had returned from exile, providing financial support for their Party.
🔴Images that are hard to fathom, but also moments that showed that the people and the youth have the power to turn things upside down and become the driving force behind these developments.
The conclusions drawn from the seven years of dictatorship—which are vividly portrayed in the documentary—are of particular significance and serve as a valuable source of inspiration and lessons for today’s struggles.
