Stefanos Kasselakis launched an attack on SYRIZA and the Tsipras government, referring to the tragedy in Mati.
Speaking on a television program on Saturday, he said, among other things:
«I find it regrettable that we end up taking a person who comes from outside the political system, a Greek living abroad, and bringing him in to cover up our own shortcomings—those of a party that is rotting from the inside. And since we’re on the subject, in 2018 in Mati, they knew that our fellow citizens had perished, yet they pretended nothing had happened. We must judge these things as well, because that is where a person’s character is revealed—not in what they say about their opponents. I’m not referring to administrative shortcomings, but to the character of people who looked citizens in the eye and said there were no fatalities.».
Among other things, Stefanos Kasselakis criticized SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras’s stance that “the sea has no borders,” as well as SYRIZA’s stance against excellence and against the flying of the Greek flag.
SYRIZA's Response
SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance issued a statement responding to Stefanos Kasselakis in light of his accusations:
In a statement, SYRIZA emphasized:
«Today, Mr. Kasselakis came out to accuse SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance of being responsible for the tragedy in Mati. Tomorrow he’ll probably come out and say that the SYRIZA government «traded the name of Macedonia for pensions.»”.
His daily circuit, from channel to channel, and his barrage of vulgarities against SYRIZA—Progressive Alliance, would be a sad sight. However, this is not a sign of desperation, but rather a well-calculated move that he carries out eagerly, «as if he’s been ready for a long time.» And it is clearly part of an organized plan by New Democracy, the anti-SYRIZA front, and the establishment, who believe that this is how they will get rid of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance. They are sorely mistaken. They will not succeed.».
