-If the Mayor told the whole truth and not half truth-half lies, then many things would go better.
-If the Mayor knew the word «self-criticism» then a big step would have been made in the issues of cooperation in Kythera.
But let's take it from the beginning: many residents and holidaymakers in areas of Kythera this year for the first time literally «came out of their clothes» with the water supply situation. They have had to resort to strong protests, to publicising the problems on social media and to legal action. The reason was simple: they had no water at the taps...
The logical thing would be for the Mayor to be present in Kythera and supervise the work of the repair-maintenance crews etc. of the water supply network. The logical thing would be for him to try to calm the anger of the residents. But instead he was in Antikythera, leaving the difficult task (and dealing with the anger of the residents) to the diligent deputy mayor Mr. Zantiotis. Instead of appeasement he chose to attack residents, local media and the municipal opposition...
He believes that the half-words he uttered at the City Council on July 31 was «full and detailed information on the problems of water supply and their treatment, for the projects that have been launched and the stages of their implementation and for the next steps and projects planned in the near future.».
It is known that the two opposition parties have submitted 15 realistic proposals to address the water supply problems. It is known that in order to achieve unanimity (i.e. to get the opposition councillors to vote for them) we selected 4 of these proposals on which we were in verbal agreement. It is also known that the coalition councillors ultimately did not even vote for the proposals with which they agreed...
The Mayor with his post on 1η September calls the coordinated absence of the entire municipal coalition from the August 8, 2024 Board meeting a «theater meeting.» Instead of apologizing for the opposition's unconstitutional and illegal undermining of the democratic right to challenge Board meetings on specific issues, he prefers to attack.
The Mayor is pleased because «the Municipal Authority found it particularly positive that it was agreed to have a comprehensive discussion and approach to the water problem by the entire Board of Directors. after the summer season»... Above all, let's not spoil the Mayor's nirvana. As if the debate is going to happen now as demanded by the residents who rushed to attend this particular meeting!
The Mayor also complains about the «formation of the Organizing Committee for the big two-day conference to be held in Kythera next April». He made sure of course that there was no one from the opposition in this organizing committee... So democratic!
Finally, the Mayor informs us about projects that have been carried out in the last decade and that «without them the situation of Kythera's water supply would be much worse». Be well, Mr.Mayor, that with our money you are doing some (insufficient of course) projects...
The only thing we give right to the Mayor is his admission that the state must «intervene in the problems of remote municipalities like ours that today is left with one (1) plumber and one (1) hydrologist, with only six (6) administrative employees and without any immediate prospect for the essential staffing of the and this is NOT his responsibility». Except we see you doing temenas to every official (of every party) who has been visiting our islands for 10 years. Since the situation is tragic with the understaffing of the municipalities, it's not enough to say it to us, say it «elsewhere»...
Where it ends, of course, is in the realization: how much better things would be if the recently complaining citizens complained to the competent authorities hand in hand with the Municipality and for all the above»...
