Without any hint of personal animosity, we cannot help but address certain points from the Statement of Candidacy by Mr. Nikos Chrysafitis, a current opposition city council member and candidate once again with the «ALL TOGETHER» faction.
First of all, as we have emphasized many times, The Board of Directors' meeting times are not a prerequisite for someone seeking the citizens' vote nor is there any kind of social contract: «Elect me to the board, but I can only serve in the evenings and on Sundays.»! The municipality is not just a side project, but All elected officials must fulfill their duties and obligations in accordance with the rules., or else they shouldn't get involved, especially when their personal commitments don't leave them much free time. No one forced them. For the record, During his current term, Mr. Chrysafitis attended 19 Board of Directors meetings and was absent from 15—that is, half of them.
What really left us speechless, however, is the irony using which he chose to categorize the issues on which the Board of Directors is called upon to make decisions, matters on which the Mayor does not decide whether they will be approved or not by the City Council or the Finance Committee, but the law explicitly stipulates this. Thus, Mr. Chrysafitis, using the so-called ironic quotation marks, states the following: “We have a vote to cast” «significant» topics such as, «Installation of feeding stations for stray animals», «granting a resident permission to set up a table and a chair on the street,» «yet another extension of the deadline for the handover of the sponge divers» monument”… and many other similar examples «significant» ”topics!".
We don't know what Mr. Chrysafitis thinks about stray animals, but he would do well to reconsider his views. Because, YES, caring for stray animals—beyond our legal obligation—is indeed a very IMPORTANT issue, no question about it!
For the record, we note that From 2017 to the present, our Municipal Authority, using its own resources, has performed 922 spay/neuter procedures and medical treatments on stray animals (cats/dogs), while it has procured collection equipment, vaccines, and animal feed with funding from the Ministry of the Interior and, at the same time, has received €10,000 for additional spaying, neutering, and medical treatments for stray animals.
Is it true that the leader and the other members of the political group agree with Mr. Chrysafitis’s sarcastic views on the care of stray animals?;
