An operation is underway to deal with violent protesters who stormed the Capitol. Special forces (SWAT) are inside the building, while chemical agents have been used outside, where supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump remain gathered. At the same time, the National Guard is on its way.
According to Pentagon chief spokesman Jonathan Hoffman, the entire Washington National Guard was activated by the US Department of Defense to deal with the invasion of Trump supporters on the Capitol.
Members of the Washington National Guard and neighboring states of Virginia and Maryland are mobilizing in an effort to restore order in the federal capital after Trump supporters attempted to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory in the US elections.victory in the US elections.
This deployment of armed reinforcements was announced by the White House, as well as by Virginia's Democratic governor, Ralph Northam, and Maryland governor Larry Hogan.
A Pentagon spokesperson stated that the Washington National Guard, with 1,100 members, was called in to support law enforcement.
At the same time, SWAT forces are inside the Capitol to control the situation.
