During the debate on «Turkish airstrikes in northern Syria» the KKE’s European Parliamentary Group spoke during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
In his speech, KKE MEP Kostas Papadakis noted the following, according to a related press release:
«Turkey's unacceptable invasion of Syria and northern Iraq is having severe consequences for the people of those countries, is complicating the volatile situation in the wider region and creating conditions for dangerous border changes. The U.S., the EU, NATO, and Russia are all covering for and justifying the entire operation as an extension of their rivalries in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. They are encouraging the aggression of Turkey’s bourgeoisie, each seeking to co-opt it for their own interests. As for the threats of invasion that Turkey is making against Greece as part of its geopolitical rivalry with the Greek bourgeoisie, these so-called “allies” respond with “figure it out yourselves.” This stance paves the way for joint exploitation in the Aegean and the Cypriot EEZ, with dangerous arrangements that serve the interests of energy conglomerates.».
«Such are the alliances of the bourgeoisie, which is why we need to strengthen the people’s struggle and remain vigilant against any changes to borders and the treaties that define them,’ Mr. Papadakis emphasized, concluding his remarks.
