ADMIE brings one step closer the construction of the electrical interconnection of Folegandros, Milos and Serifos with Santorini and the Lavrio, following the appointment of the final contractors for the design, supply and installation of 150 kV AC high voltage underground and submarine cables.
More specifically:
- Hellenic Cables Group is awarded the contract for the cable section of the interconnection between Lavrio-Serifos and Serifos-Milos (Section A), with a total length of 170 km and a contract price of EUR 195 million.
- Prysmian Group is awarded the cable section of the Milos-Folegandros and Folegandros-Santorini (Section B) interconnection, with a total length of 127 km and a contract price of €150 million.
The relevant contracts are expected to be signed in 2022 after the completion of the legal pre-contractual procedures.
The project, which will integrate Folegandros, Milos and Serifos into the mainland's electricity transmission system, is part of the fourth and final phase of the interconnection of the Cyclades and will be completed in 2024. Once operational, the new interconnection will significantly upgrade the quality of electricity supply to 7 more directly and indirectly interconnected islands of the Cyclades (Folegandros, Milos, Serifos, Ios, Kimolos, Sifnos and Kythnos) throughout the year and will allow the gradual withdrawal of the polluting and old technology power plants that have been operating until now in Milos and Serifos.
The project, with a total budget of €345 million, has been selected for co-financing of €103.5 million from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
The President and CEO of ADMIE, Mr. Manos Manousakis, «ADMIE is getting even closer to completing the electrical interconnection of the Cyclades with the mainland system. The cables, which are starting to be constructed immediately at the contractors» factories, will connect the largest islands of the southwestern Cyclades with Attica, creating another strong loop of supply from the High Voltage System. We are confident that the contractors, with their proven experience and expertise in demanding submarine interconnection projects, will carry out this important energy project with technical excellence".
