Giorgos Goussis's «Magnetic Fields,» arguably the most talked-about Greek film we've seen recently, will also be vying for a place in the Oscar universe at this year's ceremony.
So, Giorgos Gousis' film was selected to represent Greece at the 95th Academy Awards and thus compete for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film, as announced by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Greece's official candidacy was selected by a seven-member committee, which was formed exclusively for this purpose.
The committee convened and, after thorough discussion, proposed by majority vote «Magnetic Fields,» as it considered that this is a film that speaks directly to the viewer and can appeal to an international audience, since it deals with a universal theme, that of the existential crisis. The Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, responsible for Contemporary Culture, Nikolas Giatromanolakis, accepted the Committee's opinion and issued the relevant decision.
«The Ministry of Culture and Sports will ensure the timely completion of the procedures for Greece's representation at the 95th Academy Awards, in accordance with the regulations of the American Film Academy,» the announcement concludes.
