In a neo-medieval era in which Westerners will be able to meet only their most basic, absolutely basic needs, we are being led—or, as some would have it, are being driven—in that direction, says Professor of Geopolitics George Filis.
Mr. Filis emphasizes that we are once again heading toward the lowest level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, where people will strive to meet their basic needs (physiological needs, according to Maslow), such as air, water, food, and sleep, and we will practically not know if we have enough money to raise our children, the professor emphasizes.
"Freedom is a utopia for people today," adds Mr. Filis, "a range of options to choose from, but that's as far as it goes.".
"Ten people control all the wealth in our time, and they want us to thank them," adds Mr. Filis, who emphasizes that in the East, given the problems with governments and regimes in the Eastern world, there is a backlash against this trend. We know from our history that we should expect a similar backlash in the Western world as well. We are watching the elections in Europe, and let’s wait and see what happens in the U.S. elections in November.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a concept in psychology proposed by the American Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper “A Theory of Human Motivation” («A Theory of Human Motivation») in the journal *Psychological Review*.
The hierarchy of needs is divided into deficiency needs and growth needs. While the theory is usually depicted as a pyramid in illustrations, Maslow himself never created a pyramid to represent the hierarchy of needs.
