«A few days ago, I said that we are living a Third World War in different phases. Now I can say that it is a total, third world war,» Pope Francis said today, with particular reference to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences, but also to other conflicts in many regions of the world.
«Anachronistic conflicts are intensifying, extreme, closed, aggressive nationalisms are returning, with new wars affecting the elderly, children and the sick, causing destruction everywhere,» Francis added.
«After the two World Wars, we thought that the world had learned to move, gradually, towards respect for human rights, international law, multiple forms of cooperation. But history, unfortunately, shows signs of regression,» the Argentinean pontiff concluded.
