Why do we constantly feel tired?;

If you don't sleep well at night, work at an exhausting pace or are under intense pressure and stress, then it's not hard to discover who is stealing your energy. But what can happen when fatigue is persistent and unwarranted?;

Let's see what are the usual suspects for lack of energy and how to deal with the situation.

  • Do you do diet; If you are on a diet, you may feel exhausted and find it difficult to concentrate, especially if your diet is not balanced and excludes whole food groups such as carbohydrates (bread, rice, potatoes and pasta). So if you are following a protein diet (protein-based diets, i.e. meat, chicken and fish), then be aware that these types of diets cause fatigue because they are deficient in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients as they exclude the consumption of a very important food category, carbohydrates.
  • The same is true for the detox diets and the fasting diets. The former only involve eating vegetables and are exhausting because they deprive the body of the B vitamins contained in animal foods, while the latter are exhausting because they are depriving. Therefore, it is better to diet with the help of a dietician who will plan a diet to meet your needs without causing exhaustion.
  • Do you miss iron; Your skin is pale, you feel dull and find it hard to concentrate? Even though you sleep and eat well, do you feel tired? The thief of your strength is probably iron deficiency anaemia. Simply put, the iron stores in your body are depleted and you feel overwhelmed because of poor blood oxygenation, so that your nervous and muscular systems are not supplied with the necessary energy. It is advisable to visit your doctor who will recommend blood tests to check your haematocrit, iron and iron ferritin (you may have iron deficiency, i.e. low iron, without iron deficiency anaemia). The doctor will recommend taking iron supplements as well as eating iron-rich foods such as red meat, liver, eggs, lentils and green vegetables such as spinach.
  • When there is a problem in the thyroid. When the thyroid gland is not functioning adequately, which is often seen in women, you will feel muscle weakness and fatigue, while your movements are sluggish, you get cold more easily, you feel drowsy and you may see that you are getting fat even though you are not eating more. It is possible that the culprit of your sluggishness is hypothyroidism. This means that the thyroid gland (located in the throat, under the Adam's apple) does not produce enough T3 and T4 hormones so that your body does not burn enough. It is necessary to see your endocrinologist who will recommend tests to check your thyroid hormones and based on the results it is likely that you will be prescribed treatment (i.e. taking thyroid hormone for life under medical supervision).

5 more reasons you feel overwhelmed

*There is a possibility that you are surrounded by a ίωση. The feeling of being overwhelmed is usually the first symptom and within 24 hours the other symptoms appear.

  • If you snore at night and usually wake up feeling like you haven't had enough sleep, then the culprit may be the sleep apnea. It is caused by obstruction of the upper respiratory tract and is often seen in those who have a lot of excess weight.

*The mild dehydration is another reason why we feel weakened. Along with the water, precious resources are lost. electrolytes -such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and chlorine- which are essential for the normal functioning of the muscular and nervous system. Therefore we do not neglect the daily drinking of water.

*If you smoke, then respiratory function is affected and blood oxygenation is reduced. As a result, less oxygen reaches the muscles and all body tissues. Poor oxygenation of the body reduces energy. The solution is simple: stop smoking!

*Certain medications, such as diuretics for hypertension or antihistamines, may have the side effect of fatigue. Therefore, if you are taking medication and have noticed fatigue, consult your doctor. Attention! When fatigue persists for more than two weeks and is unwarranted, a thorough medical check-up is needed, usually starting with blood tests to see if there is anemia.
