«The Greek Revolution of 1821 was a triumph of freedom and the self-determination of peoples. It marked the beginning of a new world, especially in Europe, which was ultimately characterized by equality and democracy,» notes SYRIZA-PS in its message marking the anniversary of March 25.
He notes that «two hundred and one years have passed since that day, which came to symbolize a multifaceted national celebration. But at the same time, a crucial chapter was written then, to which anyone who wishes to reflect on the course of the Greek people throughout history with a spirit of truthfulness and integrity can return.».
After noting that «the Struggle of ’21, as has been said, was also a ”struggle of memory against oblivion” against poor writing and frequently repeated patterns of political malice,» SYRIZA emphasizes that «in these difficult times we are once again experiencing, the Greek Revolution remains a steadfast guide for the future, without having lost its distinction as an international example of independence.» The official opposition emphasizes in its message that «oppression and the use of force against a people by a more powerful force cannot be the solution for peace and stability, in any region of the world,» and notes that «the Greek Revolution reminds us that justice is a prerequisite for peace.» «Oppression and the use of force against a people, as is happening today with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, must end,» SYRIZA emphasizes, «This means respecting the self-determination of peoples and their right to peace.».
