He has addressed an open letter—via a post on social media—to the shipowner of the passenger ship Aqua Jewel, the Father Ioannis Papandropoulos.
This is a letter of protest addressed to the shipowner regarding its recent decision not to replace the Aqua Jewel during its annual maintenance.
The open letter follows.
«Good morning, everyone. Just yesterday, March 16, I was informed that there will be no ferry service from March 18 through April 14.".
As we know, the ship is docked every year during the winter months, when the weather makes it difficult for us to travel to Athens, since we depend on it.
As we knew, this year, when the ship came in to dock, we would have another ship, and thanks to your information, we wouldn’t be left without a connection to Piraeus.
And so, being sensible, I planned my trip to Piraeus and another destination in Greece, booking three plane tickets.
Now you come along and announce that in two days we won’t have a ferry to replace the one that’s going into dry dock for 18 days, especially now that it’s spring and people are able to travel to Athens.
And I’m asking you this and seeking an answer from you. Will you refund me the €150 for the plane tickets I’m going to cancel? Please note that this is the third time this winter that I’ve had to cancel or have had trouble traveling by ferry. This is the second time I’ll have to cancel airline tickets because the ferry won’t be running.
Even though you had assured us that the island would have a ferry service, you suddenly left us without a connection to Piraeus and informed us only two days in advance. And I’ll ask you again: will you reimburse me for the cost of the tickets I’ll have to cancel?.
I am waiting for your reply.
»Have a blessed Lent."
