The assessment that there will be a fifth wave of pandemic of coronavirus which will start in spring 2022, the NHS director expressed, Nikos Capravelos.
«We are currently experiencing the tragic consequences of the severity of the fourth wave that started in November, even though we were warned in August. If you don't deal with a phenomenon at its roots in terms of health, i.e. 100 deaths a day, you get these tragic results.», said the director of the NHS in the Second Intensive Care Unit at the Papanikolaou Hospital, speaking to ERT.
«No one should pretend as to the consequences. And the fifth wave that will start in May will have the same consequences. We will relax now and it will show its teeth in April-May. Mercy. Everyone should realize that we will have a pandemic outbreak and we will experience these tragic consequences that our hospital is experiencing,» he added.
Nikos Capravelos pointed out that the pandemic is an extreme health phenomenon for which we should not be complacent while for the morbidity in children around the world, he said that it has increased «but fortunately the children are not in a serious condition».
According to Mr.Kapravelos, the situation in the ICU of Papanikolaou is not good. «In our hospital we expected a decrease in cases and now we have an increase. Our units are not under so much pressure. Fortunately we are at the end of the fourth wave. Our concern is that while we had a fourth wave with Delta, now we have Omicron,» he noted.
«The majority of those hospitalised are unvaccinated and have underlying diseases. The masks we abandoned last summer must always be in place. Thirdly, the vaccination of the activity of the unvaccinated. We should be careful about the concentrations» said Capravelos.
He described it as very pointless to open the shops and relaxation to be done by the drop so that we don't face bigger problems in the future.
