Coronavirus: 5,641 new cases in Greece today - 69 dead and 665 intubated

The National Public Health Organization (EODY) announced on Wednesday afternoon (22/12) that the number of laboratory-confirmed new cases of coronavirus is 5,641, of which 8 were detected following checks at the country's entry gates. On 13-19 December, the total number of patients aged 4-18 years is 8,355, making up 27% (4% from the previous week)in the total number of cases.

The total number of cases is 1,049,936 (daily change +0.5%), of which 50.4% are males. Based on confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 214 are considered to be associated with travel from abroad and 2,964 are associated with an already known case.

The Rt for the territory based on the cases is estimated at 0.96 (95% CI: 0.87 - 1.05).

There are 69 new deaths of COVID-19 patients, with a total of 20,126 deaths recorded since the start of the epidemic. 95.2% had underlying disease and/or age 70 years or older.

The number of hospitalized intubated patients is 665 (61.4% men). Their median age is 63 years. 78.9% have an underlying disease and/or age 70 years or older. Among intubated patients, 553 (83.16%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 112 (16.84%) are fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,691 patients have been discharged from ICUs.

New Covid-19 patient admissions to hospitals in the territory are 370 (daily change +25.42%). The seven-day average admission rate is 333 patients.

Conducting tests
In the last 24 hours 24,818 molecular tests and 322,027 rapid tests were performed. In total 346,845 positivity is estimated at 1,62%.

In the week 13-19 December, the positivity rate was 1.33% in a total of 2,324,134 laboratory tests (RT-PCR/Rapid-Ag) and 0.25% in a total of 3,967,270 self-diagnostic tests.
