The online self-signature phase officially ended on Monday, but the application will remain open to the public. In fact, according to an announcement, the application will remain open for modifications/corrections until Friday 17 December.
According to ELSTAT, those who could not, for whatever reason, self-sign electronically will be enrolled by the census taker of their region through a personal interview.
The way it is done is as follows:
-The ELSTAT census taker visits every residence that has not been electronically censored, applying the measures in force to protect public health.
-If the household wishes to be interviewed in person, the questionnaire will be completed either inside or outside the dwelling, in compliance with the applicable public health protection measures. At the end of the interview, the Census Certificates will also be given to the persons to be censused.
-If the household does not wish to be interviewed in person:
* The census taker will leave the questionnaire form in the household and will agree on the day and time for the receipt of the completed questionnaire and will give the Census Confirmations for the persons to be censused, or
* The census taker will make a telephone appointment for the completion of the questionnaire, with a telephone interview and will agree on the day and time to deliver the Census Certificates to the persons to be censored.
During their work, the approximately 60,000 census takers and the 12,500 ELSTAT sector heads wear, apart from their police identity card, a special badge with the ELSTAT logo, on which their details are written, as well as a designation form with their photo and ELSTAT stamp.
Through the census, the population of Greece is counted in each Regional Unit, Municipality or Community and independent settlement, covering the whole territory (mainland Greece, islands, border areas), while data on the demographic and social characteristics of the population and their housing conditions are collected.
Participation in the census is compulsory and the data collected are confidential, are not transmitted or disclosed to any public or private body and are used only for the production of aggregate statistics. No sensitive personal data are collected.
