An unprecedented incident occurred in port of Rhodes, where a tanker, which was bound for transport illicit fuel, «escaped» in the early hours of Wednesday morning under the nose of the competent authorities.
Specifically, the ship «Eirini 1», a Guyanese-flagged ship with an Indian crew, was bound for Rhodes, where it sailed for spare parts.
According to information, the Coast Guard authorities took it out of port due to weather conditions and it remained anchored at anchor.
However, the crew started the engines and left.
The ship was sighted from the observation post of the Navy, which alerted the Coast Guard.
An attempt was made to persecute him, but he eventually fled to Turkey.
