Vanity, hypocrisy, flattery, and anxiety about how «others» see us are some of the issues addressed in this brilliant A fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. This beloved story, which essentially speaks to the beauty and power of honesty and simplicity, is presented in a new musical-theatrical adaptation.
Three performers act, sing, dance, and transform themselves with boundless enthusiasm into many different roles, creating a brand-new «pocket musical» that examines, with subtlety and humor, people’s longing to be socially accepted, while It raises very timely issues, such as the negative power of social criticism and the excessive importance we place on our image.
The show will be presented in a special preview at the Art Theater’s Basement on Sunday, November 21, at 12:00 p.m., while regular performances begin on Sunday, December 5, and continue every Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (See the holiday program below.).
It should be noted that this particular production by the Children’s Stage of the Art Theater was designed—amid the extraordinary circumstances caused by the pandemic—specifically so that it could be presented outside of a traditional theater setting. As a result, it is presented by invitation at schools as well as other non-theatrical venues.
