400.000 vaccinations to date

To date, some 411,424 citizens have been vaccinated with the third dose against Covid, as its administration started in mid-September to groups such as immunocompromised people, followed by people living in shelters, people over 50 years old and health workers.

The side effects from the third dose are similar or even milder compared to the side effects from the second dose.

The necessity of the third dose is dictated by the gradual reduction of humoral immunity antibodies, but also by the infectious activity and the infectiousness of the virus mutations. The third dose is administered for reinforcement and longer duration of protection. According to experts, people who received three doses had an 11 times lower risk of contracting the virus and a 20 times lower risk of becoming ill than people who received two doses.

Overall 12.824.577 vaccinations have been carried out to date, of which 6.399.728 including the second dose.

Significant increase in programming for vaccination with the first dose in the last few days and even doubled in just two days.

Specifically, on November 2, the number of first appointments made reached 19,000 while successively on the following days the number soared above 25,000 with yesterday's day recording a significant increase reaching the number of 29,872 first appointments.

Calls for vaccination of pregnant women and the elderly

At the forefront of the campaign vaccination, are the pregnant women but also the elderly people, as it is generally agreed that they are the two categories of citizens at risk of becoming seriously ill from coronavirus.

In particular, after the intervention of the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris for the examination of complaints, according to which gynecologists, prevent pregnant women from getting vaccinated, an appeal for vaccination was made during the briefing on Thursday 4 November, and the ladies Mina Gaga and Vana Papaevangelou.

«We have intubated pregnancies and deaths of pregnant women. It is very important that they are vaccinated for their safety,» the deputy health minister said. Mina Gaga, appealing to them, urging them to get vaccinated at least after the third month of pregnancy.

«Most deaths are of elderly people»Ms Ganga also noted, urging vaccination.

In turn, Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Expert Committee Vana Papaevangelou, stressed that the vaccination in pregnancy is safe and necessary, while the member of the Committee of Experts Gikas Majorkinis, made particular reference to the seniors, noting that approximately one in three over 70 years old unvaccinated without underlying diseases, will be admitted to hospital if they contract the disease.

If he has an underlying disease, this probability reaches the «tragic» 50% and of these at least one in seven will end up, Mr.

«Vaccination reduces these chances 10 to 20 times. Instead of 50 out of 100 ending up in hospital, two will end up in hospital,» said Mayorkinis, appealing to people who have not been vaccinated to make the «sensible and safe choice. Get vaccinated.».

Plevris intervention after complaints against doctors who prevent pregnant women from getting vaccinated

The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris sent a letter to the Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS) on Thursday to investigate complaints that some gynaecologists are preventing pregnant women from getting vaccinated against Covid 19.

These complaints were made by the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (PDEDIN), Michael Giannakos, after the incident of intubation of a pregnant nurse in Larissa, who was unvaccinated. The nurse was not on probation, but was on maternity leave.

Mr Giannakou's assessment is that the nurse had been advised not to be vaccinated by her gynaecologist.

According to him, there are many cases of health workers who are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to have children and their doctors «brake» them from getting vaccinated.

The Minister of Health calls for these complaints to be investigated by PIS and «to judge whether medical advice of this nature contravenes the rules of medical science and endangers the health of patients». Depending on the results of the investigation, disciplinary action by local associations is not ruled out. It is recalled that the Athens Medical Association has proceeded with a disciplinary sanction against a doctor who organised anti-vaccination demonstrations last summer.

Shock after the complaints of PDEDN

On the occasion of the nurse intubation pregnant woman in the Larissa which has not been vaccinated against coronavirus, the president of the POEDIN Michael Giannakos said the Federation was aware of cases of doctors «keeping» their colleagues from getting vaccinated.

Intubated in the Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital of Larissa, is a hospitalized pregnant woman 41 years old, which is nurse of the anaesthesia department in the same hospital.

Speaking on SKAI television, Mr Giannakos denounced that doctors recommend that pregnant and breastfeeding women and women who want to procreate not to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

«The case in Larissa, I believe - I'm not sure, I'm not sure - that it's a case where her doctor told her to get vaccinated. The colleague was not at work, she was on a legal maternity leave, it was not suspended, but there are many cases of colleagues who are afraid to get vaccinated because their doctors “brake” them in this, »he said.

«I can't believe that there is a doctor who recommends that she should remain unvaccinated pregnant,» commented Professor Stelios Loukidis, president of the Pulmonary Society.

He added that the scientific evidence shows that the pregnancy is a risk factor for serious disease and the scientific community has taken a position on this issue with relevant guidelines.

The professor also said that a special study was done on men to see if fertility is affected by vaccines and it turned out that there is no such data.
