In statements made from the Pavilion of the Parliament immediately after their visit to the hospital, the secretary of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said that «this ICU is divided into 4 sub-units, where two of them have a capacity of 12 beds and the other two have a capacity of 13 beds» and that «at the moment, of these 4 sub-units, one sub-unit with a capacity of 12 beds and another one with a capacity of 13 beds, in which 2 patients are currently being treated with reduced and mobile staff». He added that «the other two sub-units, with a capacity of 12 and 13 beds respectively, are not currently operational».
He then noted that «yesterday Mr. Mitsotakis He said that if the statement is refuted, according to which 50 beds are currently readily available and have the capacity to receive patients now, then Mr Mitsotakis himself will request the resignation of the Governor». «So we are waiting to see the consequences of Mr Mitsotakis» words and deeds". Tzanakopoulos, also stating that during the visit they met with the hospital administrator, «who in the discussion we had, has unreasonably refused to show us the list of personnel serving in this 50-bed unit».
Mr.Tzanakopoulos stressed that at «Sotiria» the doctors and nursing staff «are fighting a daily battle in the midst of a difficult situation. adverse conditions, while dozens of our fellow citizens are struggling to keep themselves alive» and that «our solidarity and support is practical».
«The government in the phase we are in today, for which it bears criminal responsibility, cannot continue to play the game of communication. The Greek people need to know the truth in order to feel safe and secure,» said the secretary of the SYRIZA-PS Co-Chair, Olga Gerovassilis. He noted that «the truth is a weapon», commenting that «this cannot be understood by ND and Mr Mitsotakis personally - and he tries to refute reality when it does not fit his narrative». He said that «the moment we are in sanitary cordon and there is a huge need to support the National Health System and the Greek society, we will not allow the truth to cease to exist», explaining that «this was the meaning of our visit today to the “Sotiria” hospital, where we found that Mr Mitsotakis lied yesterday». He argued that «this diminishes Greek society and does not answer the great need for the Greek citizen to feel safe». Gerovassili stressed that in its role as an opposition party, SYRIZA-PS «contributes, presses and criticizes in the direction of doing quickly all that should have been done since March» and «we will continue to do this with responsibility».
