The eleven professions which show the highest employment growth during the period 2013 - 2019, presents a study by SEV that aims to redesign education and training programmes based on the real needs of the labour market.
According to the study, these occupations are also better paid than the average and are:
- Information and communication technicians,
- General clerks and keyboard operators,
- Customer service employees,
- Employees recording numerical data and materials,
- Sellers,
- Craftsmen and printers,
- Electricians and electronics,
- Food processing, woodworking, clothing and clothing craftsmen,
- Operators of fixed industrial installations, machinery and equipment,
- Assemblers (assemblers),
- Transport drivers and mobile equipment operators.
With regard to wages, it is noted that the average wages of occupations such as «Electrical and electronic technicians», «Information and communication technicians» and «General and keyboard operators» are higher than the average wage in the economy, which is an indication of an excess demand for human resources in these occupations.
In addition, the average wages of some dynamic low-skilled occupations, such as «Transport drivers and mobile equipment operators», «Assemblers (assemblers)» and «Operators of fixed plant, machinery and equipment» are very close to the average wage in the economy. Considering that the remuneration of the standard qualifications of the workforce for these occupations, as well as for «electricians and electronics technicians», is low compared to other highly qualified occupations (for example those requiring a university education), it could be argued that their average wage is close to or above the average wage in the economy, due to the excess demand for manpower in these occupations on the part of enterprises.
Overall, according to the study, during the period 2013-2019, the productive sectors of industry, transport and communications have recorded up to three times the growth in employment compared to the economy as a whole.
«The above findings demonstrate the importance of VET professions for the development of dynamic and productive sectors of the economy and indicate vocational orientation paths with promising employment prospects. Therefore, they highlight the need for a substantial upgrade of Vocational Education and Training in a specific direction of modern productive transformation», SEV stresses. «In order to yield substantial benefits, the adaptation of regional training programmes must be complemented by interventions in the so-called Regulated Technical Occupations, with a view to removing the anchors that create obstacles to the ability of enterprises to meet their needs with skilled labour from these occupational categories».
These figures are the result of a survey conducted by SEV, which aims to redesign education and training programmes based on the real needs of the labour market.
