The chain of fascist attacks of the last few days demonstrate in the most tangible way that there can be no illusions about the effect of a court decision on the survival of fascism in Greek society.
In other words, no matter how important semantically and historically the conviction of the criminal organisation Golden Dawn by the Athens Criminal Court of Appeal a year ago was, constituting the beginning of the end of impunity for Nazi criminal violence in our country and vindicating the victims and the struggles of anti-fascists, the ideology of hatred is not so easily eradicated and the fascist danger will always lurk.
After the bloody incidents that took place in Stavroupoli, Evosmos and Ilioupoli in Thessaloniki against pupils, students and members of the KNE, right-wing extremists also beat up antifascist members of the «Movement Against Racism and the Fascist Threat» in the square of our neighbouring Neos Heraklion.
In the repeated incidents of murderous attacks, eyewitnesses and victims complain about the negligence -at least- of the Greek Police, while the videos that circulate in social networks and show snapshots of the violent events provoke public sentiment.
The leaders of the Neo-Nazi criminal organisation HA may be in prison, but it is more than obvious that their successors, the various far-right gangs, are competing with each other «on the street» to see who will be the most «worthy».
The complacency of the people, the youth, the democratic world is not an option. The denunciation of the attacks by mass organizations, political parties, local government is loud. But the reaction of the government of the New Democracy, whose members, as well as friendly media, again invoke the much-used «two extremes» argument, equating the struggles of the people, the anti-fascist movement and the youth parties of the Left, with the criminal acts of Nazi groupies and remnants of the KLA.
Once again, mass popular action, organisation in neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools and universities is necessary, as this is the only way to isolate and crush the fascist criminal elements who have once again shamelessly come out of their holes.
