«The rapid developments in Afghanistan, with the collapse of the donor government that had emerged in the country after the imperialist intervention of the US, NATO and their allies and the rise to power of the obscurantist Taliban movement, which had been supported in various ways initially by the US and other capitalist powers, show that the suffering of the people of Afghanistan has no end,» a statement by the press office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Communist Party of Afghanistan (KKE) said.
According to the KKE, «it is amply demonstrated that the US intervention in 2001, which was carried out under the pretext of “fighting terrorism” and the attack on the twin towers, had in fact other objectives and mainly the control of the “soft underbelly” of Russia and China, in the context of the competition between these powers and the US.
The Biden administration is lying again today, presenting “saving the people's money” as the reason for the withdrawal of US military forces. Its objectives are different, such as shifting US attention to other ‘fronts“, such as the Pacific region, and seeking to create a ”climate of instability“ in Central Asia that is convenient for them by ”instrumentalising“ developments in Afghanistan. It is through these intra-imperialist rivalries that the Taliban seem to be favoured today.
Regarding the attitude of the Greek political parties, it is noted that «the KKE from the very first moment had condemned the intervention in Afghanistan, had destroyed the pretences of the USA, NATO, the EU, had denounced the long-standing responsibilities of all Greek governments (ND, SYRIZA, PASOK and so on), which from 2001 until today supported the involvement of our country and the Greek armed forces in Afghanistan. At every possible step, it had demanded the return to the country of the Greek forces from Afghanistan and any other imperialist mission abroad.
Now the various civilian staffs are shedding “crocodile tears” about the situation of the people in Afghanistan, especially about the position in which women will find themselves. These are the same staffs that have supported and are supporting regimes that have taken similar measures against women in their own countries.
These are the same staffs that in other historical times (see the 1980s) had rabidly supported the obscurantist Mujahideen movement (out of which the Taliban emerged), fighting against the People's Revolution and Soviet military internationalist aid’, it is also claimed.
And, the same statement continues, «with the same hypocrisy they refer to the expected increase in the refugee problem, when the developments themselves prove what everyone wants to hide, that refugees are ultimately the victims of wars and interventions.
Today the need for the people's struggle against all reactionary and obscurantist forces, inseparably linked to the struggle against the capitalist system and the imperialist forces and plans that generate and exploit them, comes to the fore.».
