«We are creating a school that looks to the future and shapes 21st-century Greece!», said the New Democracy Member of Parliament for the 1st District of Piraeus and the Islands, Mr. Christos Boutsikakis, in an interview he gave to Piraeus Channel 1, ahead of the vote on the Ministry of Education’s bill to upgrade schools and empower teachers.
Regarding SYRIZA’s criticism of the introduction of a minimum admission threshold for universities, Mr. Boutsikakis defended the new framework introduced by the government, while at the same time attacking the leader of the official opposition: «We must give universities the freedom to decide, and on what terms, how many students to admit.”. SYRIZA is banking on division. That is how he was elected in 2015, on the basis of claims that were unfounded—just as Mr. Tsipras is now promising young people who didn’t get into university that he’ll get them in next year. This is ridiculous! Political discourse must be serious. The leader of the official opposition cannot say such things!», the Member of Parliament emphasized.
Next, Mr. Boutsikakis referred to the sexist tweet a SYRIZA official who was targeting top tennis player Maria Sakkari, which he denounced from the floor of Parliament, but to which he received no response.
In closing, regarding the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Member of Parliament called on all our fellow citizens to get vaccinated: «It’s the only way, the only shield, the only weapon we have right now against the coronavirus. It’s a matter of personal responsibility, and each of us is responsible!», as he pointed out.
