Prepaid card of €150 for every young person vaccinated against coronavirus

A prepaid card worth €150 will be offered to any young person aged between 18 and 25 who is vaccinated, the Prime Minister announced. Where it can be used.

The “freedom card” (or Freedom Pass) as an incentive for young people who make the vaccine against the coronavirus, the Prime Minister announced, Kyriakos Mitsotakis at a meeting in Maximos Mansion.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in particular that it is time to reward citizens, especially young people, for a new window of freedom and announced that with the first dose of vaccines to young people aged 18-25 years, a prepaid card of 150 euros will be given.

This card will be activated the day after the vaccination and can be used at cultural venues and events, as well as for tourism.

“This is a debt to the youth, a thank you for their patience and perseverance, a gift of gratitude, especially in the face of the coming summer,” the Prime Minister said.

The “freedom card” will cover tickets for travel by boat and train, car rental costs, hotel and camping expenses, as well as admission to cultural sites, cinemas, theatres, museums, archaeological sites and dance schools.

It will be automatically generated with the AMKA of each new who will have been vaccinated by 2021. This applies to both young people who have already been vaccinated and those who will be vaccinated from now on. It will be gradually depleted by using it through a mobile app or through a special certificate for young people who do not have a new generation mobile phone.

The card, as the Minister of Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, explained, will be available before the third ten days of July. Once the person concerned has proceeded with the vaccination, the process will be completed the following day. The new beneficiary of the card will receive all the relevant instructions. The card will be stored in a “digital wallet” and can be used in POS transactions.

It should be noted that in the morning meeting in Maximos it was finally decided that the remaining “privileges” or facilities for vaccinated persons, including free access to closed entertainment venues etc., will be announced in the next few days and not today as was the original plan, in order to promote the “freedom card” and to send the message to young people, who, as the Prime Minister said, contribute de facto more to mobility and the transmission of the coronavirus.

Mitsotakis also acknowledged that young people are the category of the population that has been particularly affected by the lockdown, as they have seen their studies disrupted, their friends taken away, their travel and entertainment lost. But also that unlike other categories, young people 18-25 have had no financial support.

Something that the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Culture Lina Mendoni and Tourism Harris Theocharis, who specialized the measure by sector, did not mention is that in this age group the government's image in the last year has been negative.
