Vasilakopoulos: We knew about the complications of AstraZeneca since February

Given that scientists knew that vaccine of AstraZeneca has been causing complications since last February, according to Theodoros Vasilakopoulos, professor of pulmonology and intensive care at the University of Athens Medical School, speaking on Wednesday morning on OREN.

«It is very important that scientists want what is best for people. Scientists are not hiding anything. In February, when the epidemic was wreaking havoc, the benefits of any vaccine were enormous. Scientists had described how the AstraZeneca vaccine causes some rare complications,» he said.

Explaining the reasons behind the decision to stop administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to citizens over the age of 60, he said:

«When I had to weigh the benefits of vaccine protection against the risks, it was definitely in favor of the vaccine.. As the pandemic subsides, meaning that the risk of getting infected and therefore becoming seriously ill and putting my life at risk becomes smaller, the given risk, which is 1 in 200,000, must be weighed. I say that The epidemiological burden in Greece is so low, so there is no reason for a young person to take this risk.».

Adding cynically that «when we took the AstraZeneca vaccine, the risk of contracting COVID-19 was greater, so it was worth the risk of AstraZeneca's side effects.».
