Submissions of proposals to the «ANTONIS TRITSIS» Calls for Proposals»

Ο Municipality of Kythira continues submitting proposals to the «ANTONIS TRITSIS» Programme Calls for Proposals in order to secure funding for the improvement of the island's infrastructure and the quality of life of its residents.

In this context, our Municipality submitted a proposal entitled «Upgrading of Kapsali WWTP and Sewerage Network of the Southern part of Kythera» Budget 8.625.218,00 in Call AT02 entitled «Integrated Urban Wastewater Management».

The proposal provides for the supply and installation of the necessary equipment for the upgrading of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Kapsali Kythera in order to reuse its outflow for irrigation purposes (third stage of treatment) and construction of the transport pipelines and the necessary pumping stations of the sewage drainage network in the southern part of the island to the WWTP facilities. The implementation of the network will cover the needs of the settlements of Livadi, Kato Livadi, Kalamos, Stavros, Karvounades, Kontolianika, Tsikalaria and Fatsadika, while a manhole for the reception of sewage will also be implemented, addressing another important problem that has remained unsolved for decades.

It is worth noting that the Kapsali WWTP has been built to serve a total population of about 5,500 inhabitants, compared to the 500 it serves during the winter months and almost 2,000 during the summer. Unfortunately, the necessary care has not been taken to upgrade it or to extend the sewerage networks to the large settlements in the southern part. Thus the current Municipal Authority is the one that «puts on the rails» a development project of enormous importance which, in addition to the main networks connecting the settlements mentioned above, has been technically studied (mainly in terms of the cross-sections of the pipelines) in order to be able to accept the wastewater of smaller settlements (e.g. Drimonas, Kalisperianika, Pitsinanika, Mylopotamos etc.) without the need to reconstruct the main pipelines.

The Municipality also submitted, in the call AT14 «Greece 1821 - Greece 2021» the proposal «Repair and change of use of the Old School of Anglicracy into a Hall of Cultural Events in the location of MILLAPIDEA, of the Municipality of Kythera, in the District of Livadi, with a budget of 520.000 €.

The object of the proposal is the repair and change of use of the building (from the Old School of Anglican rule to a hall for Cultural Events in Milapidea Livadi Kythera) and the regeneration and landscaping of the surrounding area of this historical monument of our island. The proposal is based on the study of the same name that has been funded in 2008 by the Kythera Foundation for Culture and Development and its feasibility has been approved by the «Greece 2021» Committee.

With the proposal to restore the Milapidea school, all three iconic schools of the Anglo-Saxon era are in the process of restoration and development. Recall that the restoration of the Urban River School is to be put out to tender in the near future with funding from the CLLD/Leader Local Programme, while the restoration of the English School of Mylopotamos has been included in the budget of the Region of Attica. This proves that with proper planning and methodical work, the important historical monuments of our country can be restored and highlighted with respect to local history and tradition.
