Water consumption prevention measures for the summer

In a press release issued by the Municipality of Kythira in the prevention measures that will apply for the summer of 2021 in the use of water from the water supply network.

The statement reads:

«Dear Consumers,

This summer season requires extra attention from all of us on the very serious issue of water management.

To this end, strict restrictions on the use of water from the water supply network will apply for the summer of 2021.

These measures must be implemented by all of us so that the summer runs with as few problems as possible.

1. We turn off the general water switch if we will be away from home for a long period of time.
2. We directly repair leaking taps in our house.
3. Repair the toilet flush immediately if it leaks.
4. We frequently check our home's network for any leaks and if a fault or leak is found, we repair it immediately.
5. Check regularly that the meter is working properly (e.g. when the meter turns with all taps closed, there is a leak).
6. We do not wash our yards, balconies, streets and pavements with water from the water supply network.
7. We do not water gardens, orchards, pots and ornamental or other plants with water from the water supply system. The water is provided exclusively for water supply and not for irrigation. The fines are very high!
8. We greatly reduce the number of times we wash our cars, especially in the summer.
9. We inform the Municipality immediately if we find water wastage because this way we offer valuable services to our fellow citizens.

If you find a leak at any point in the water supply network (in roads or fields, etc.) immediately notify the Technical Service of the Municipality by calling 27360-31213 or 31755 Monday - Friday from 08:00-15:00 or outside of business hours to the responsible water engineer in your area.

ATTENTION!!!!

• THE WATER SUPPLY WATER IS NOT FOR IRRIGATION!!!!
• EVERY HOME MUST HAVE A WATER TANK AND EVERY BUSINESS MUST HAVE A WATER SUPPLY TO MEET ITS CURRENT NEEDS IN THE EVENT OF A BREAKDOWN.
• THE MUNICIPALITY, (IF NECESSARY), DUE TO THE PROLONGED WATER SHORTAGE, WILL PROCEED TO PLANNED WATER OUTAGES
  SUMMER BY LOCAL COMMUNITY.
