Digital Film Platform for schools all over the country by CySEC

The Greek Film Centre (HCC) announces the integration of «Digital Film Platform for Schools» in the Operational Programme «Human Resources Development, Education & Lifelong Learning» of the Ministry of Development and Investment.

«The CySEC will for the first time offer a integrated educational programme fulfilling one of its main objectives, that of the promotion and dissemination of cinematographic art in Greece», the announcement notes, adding that «the eligible public expenditure of 1.418.964 euros, is in essence another fund that will be absorbed, mainly by the film community» and that the proposal for the inclusion of the project in the NSRF 2014-2020 was resubmitted by the current CySEC administration in January 2021, as «the first submission of the CySEC proposal was rejected and the money was almost lost».

     A first look at the Digital Film Platform for schools:

- It is of national scope, ensuring equal access to students and teachers even in the most remote areas of the country. Its design will facilitate access for people with disabilities to the maximum extent possible.

- It is a project IT and new technologies equally accessible to both genders, both in terms of design and implementation.

- It shall contain at least 92 international and Greek films, feature and short films in all three main genres: fiction, documentary, animation. Most of these films will be recent productions. Each will be accompanied by relevant educational material (texts, videos, etc.).

- The selection of films will be made under the supervision of the CySEC. The project will be approved by the Institute of Education Policy.

- Importantly, 10 educational films (7-10 minutes in length) will be produced to introduce students to the art of cinema.

- The films and their accompanying material will be freely available to registered and certified users, teachers and students, at scheduled, mutually agreed times.

- Teachers will be able to attend webinars on the use of the Platform.

- The smooth operation of the Platform will be ensured by a helpdesk, for which CySEC will hire staff, and by the uninterrupted technical support of its manufacturer.

- The Platform is expected to be operational for the school years 2021-22 and 2022-23. In order to ensure its operation after the completion of this co-funded action, every effort will be made to ensure that the film viewing rights last for 5 years.
