Digea: When and how to change channel frequencies in Kythira

How should the receiver on televisions be retuned? Which broadcasting centers are affected?.

The Friday, May 14, the second digital transition of Digea passes through Arcadia, Laconia, Kythera and part of the Argolis prefecture. Residents of areas that receive signals from specific transmission centers will need to change their channel frequencies.

On the day of the transition, viewers receiving the signal from the Doliana, Asea, Levidi, Reichea, Anavryti, and Kythira transmission centers, will need to retune their receivers in order to watch their favorite channels.

How is retuning done?

To perform the coordination, you need to follow these steps:

(1) Go to your receiver's menu.
(2) Select «Installation» if you have a decoder or «Settings» if you have a TV (different wording may be used depending on the receiver).
(3a) perform automatic tuning, where the receiver searches for and stores all available programs in memory
(3b) either perform manual tuning, where it stores programs of a specific frequency in memory
(4) At the end of the search, click OK/YES.
(5) Select exit to watch the program you want.
If necessary, we recommend that you reset the receiver to its factory settings.
From the Tools tab, select Factory Settings and click OK.
Confirm your selection by clicking Yes.
If you are asked for a code, press 0-0-0-0 or 1-2-3-4.
On the initial installation tab, select the language you want and click OK.
When the search is complete, press OK to watch the program you want.

Each receiver may have differences in the wording of its Menu options. Therefore, we recommend that you also consult the User Manual for your device.

Potential problems that may arise with receivers and suggested solutions.

During the retuning process, you may encounter certain problems due to the way each receiver searches for and stores digital TV channels.

Here are some common re-tuning issues you may encounter, along with tips on how to resolve them.

• Black screen after retuning

The receiver may be holding the previously stored programs on the old frequencies (which are now inactive) in its memory, preventing it from storing them again.

If this happens, it is recommended that you delete all stored programs and perform a new tuning.
Alternatively, you can reset the receiver to its factory settings (refer to the user manual for instructions) and then perform a new tuning.

If, after retuning, you see a black screen on some channels, but can hear the sound and see the station name, then your device does not support high-definition (HD) reception. You can continue to watch your favorite programs in standard definition or alternatively purchase an external decoder that supports high-definition reception.

• How do I change the order of my favorite TV channels on my remote control?;
After the automatic search process, your receiver may have changed the order of the TV channels you watch. If you want to change the order, you should (1) press the menu or settings button on the remote control and then (2) find the channel editing setting. As this process varies from receiver to receiver, we recommend that you consult the user manual for your device.

  • Will I be able to watch channels in high definition?
    In conjunction with the second digital transition, the broadcast of national stations in high definition (HD) will also begin from the «Pelion,» «Soros,» «Skiathos,» «Skopelos,» and «Skyros.» Once you have retuned your receiver in the early hours of Friday, February 5, the high-definition channels will automatically appear (High Definition) will automatically appear on your TV or decoder that supports HD technology.

Other questions

• Do you need to change your equipment (antenna, TV, decoder)?;
With the new digital transition, you won't need to change anything in your equipment. All you need to do is perform a new automatic search to tune your device to the new frequencies.

• Why is there another transition? Who decided this?;
According to a decision by the European Parliament, the 700 MHz spectrum band currently used by digital television will be made available for the development of the 5G network by mobile phone companies. Thus, the new transition is essentially being made to move television networks to the spectrum that remains for digital television.

• If someone already watches digitally, do they need to take any action?;
Yes, the transition affects all viewers who receive terrestrial digital television signals from the ERT and Digea networks. Signals will now be broadcast on the final frequencies set by the state in the new Frequency Charter, and therefore it will be necessary to retune your television or decoder.
