The detailed complaints of Kostas Vaxevanis for the “contract of death” that Menios Fourthiotis had «ordered» against him, have been put under the «microscope» of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police, even though with a delay, with the individual elements beginning to “button up”, as shown by the first investigations.
The two key events reported by the journalist and editor of Documento were, first, the attack with a Kalashnikov on the guardhouse outside the presenter's house last Friday and second, the attempt of a person to break into the offices of the newspaper «Documento».
Mr Vaxevanis also referred to the armed confrontation and pursuit of police officers of the IS team with the motorcycle passengers at dawn last Friday in the Northern Suburbs, estimating that this incident is also related to the above.
According to officials of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, as revealed by Kathimerini, the investigations of the Hellenic Police revealed a connection between the pursuit and the alleged Vaxevani for the Fourthiotis case.
The latter had visited the offices of the Security Department's racketeering unit, which is investigating the assault with a Kalashnikov in his house, in the middle of the week.
It is noted that the perpetrators of the clash with the police officers had thrown a backpack at the scene which was found by the police officers and, according to information, the investigation revealed evidence of the identity of the perpetrators.
Preliminary examination ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office
The head of the Athens Prosecutor's Office ordered a preliminary examination, following the complaints of the journalist Kostas Vaxevanis.
According to reports, the prosecution authorities will investigate the controversial reports about the danger to the journalist's life. The aim is to establish whether and by which persons any criminal acts such as provoking and offering to commit a misdemeanour or felony have been committed.
The investigation was assigned to the Security, where it is expected to start the cycle of investigations by taking a statement from the complainant himself, Kostas Vaxevanis.
Earlier, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, announced in a statement that additional measures were taken immediately to protect the journalist.
