New strong aftershocks, following last night's 6.1 Richter scale quake, may occur in northern Thessaly in the coming period, according to Professor of Seismology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Speaking on OREN's main news bulletin, the professor of seismology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki said, «In such an aftershock sequence, as it is developing, it is unlikely that there will not be a strong aftershock.» As the professor of seismology characteristically said, "in such an aftershock sequence, as it evolves, it will be unlikely that there will not be a strong aftershock in the coming days or even hours.".

«When a strong earthquake occurs, neighboring faults are always activated to a greater or lesser extent,» explained Mr. Papazachos, urging residents of the affected area not to listen to unfounded rumors about an imminent new earthquake.
