D. Kontoleon: «No to exaggeration, no to misinformation about the bazaar»

Dimitris Kontoleon, leader of the minor opposition party, interjects in the debate over the market, criticizing the current dialogue process, noting that irrational and exaggerated statements are prevalent. His statement follows:

«We live in a world of absurdity, and ultimately, it is with great sadness that I realize that everyone presents THEIR OWN reality as they see fit.".

Over the years, the Potamos Market has had the ability to both self-regulate and adapt to changing conditions, because the market is not an abstract concept; it has flesh and blood—and that is the people, our fellow countrymen who, with passion, hard work, and dedication, produce and create for the meager daily wage that is still necessary even today.

The bazaar isn’t just history and tradition—it springs from our very souls; it stems from the need to trade, the need for social interaction, the need to exchange ideas and even spark new ones; the bazaar is our imprint—it is our successes and our mistakes—it is the soul of our island. We discovered the bazaar; it did not find us. Therefore, we must respect it, take care of it, and above all, not let it fall apart.

No one got rich from the bazaar, and no one got any poorer; no one viewed the bazaar as a source of competition; quite the opposite—for every professional along the River, their work was structured around and dependent on the bazaar.

I would therefore recommend that we exercise a little caution in how we express our views, but above all in how we defend our institutions. Dialogue, objective judgment, and the right attitude are the lifeblood of our society.

So, no to exaggerations, no to misinformation, no to selective memory—let’s not turn white into black, because «there’s a time for everything.»

P.S. These days, at the flea market, you can find all sorts of exaggerated claims—animals, building materials, coffee makers that make coffee, and medicines—are ridiculous arguments that trivialize the institution and, above all, those who voice them.».
