Lockdown: measures reminiscent of March 2020 are coming

The potential for a horizontal, universal lockdown is more visible than ever - Mutations and intra-family transmission make up the frame of uncontrolled transmission of the virus.

For 11:00, on Wednesday morning, 03/03, is scheduled the extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Ministry of Health, where the facts of the pandemic crisis will be assessed.

Things are not good at all, and this is demonstrated by the extraordinary convening of the committee - which usually meets every Friday - with the imposition of horizontal measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, is more visible than ever.

According to reports, considering the possibility of closing again those schools currently operating around the country and students to resort to tele-education again.

The strict lockdown into which Attica has entered for the past 3 weeks, has not worked and this is explained, according to epidemiologists, by the world fatigue. The uncontrolled traffic on roads, parks and squares and the overcrowding observed in large supermarket chains at weekends - when the 18:00 curfew is in force - has increased intra-family transmission of the virus, experts believe.

«But we are still at war, we just don't see the bombs and the bullets,» comments Professor of Psychiatry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and member of the Commission Mr. Vasilios Panteleimon Bozikas, adding that it proves how unpredictable and insidious the virus is.

At the same time, the mutations have reached Greece and unfortunately they are very contagious, according to scientists.

At Wednesday's special meeting, Professor of Infectious Disease Sotiris Tsiodras, is expected to present, as every week, the epidemiological picture of the virus.

It is worth noting, as members of the Commission commented, that at Tuesday's meeting of epidemiologists, Professor Tsiodras appeared Especially Concerned with the dimensions that the dispersion has reached.

And it is indeed ironic to talk about 2,353 new cases of coronavirus, 422 intubated and 23 deaths in the last 24 hours - as announced by the EODY - after one year pandemic and while the vaccinations are in full swing after two months.

In the meantime, the NHS is once again in the deep red and donations to ICU beds, can't seem to save the situation, since, need brave staffing.

According to the latest update of the POEDIN, at the moment there are just 19 empty ICU-COVID beds in the basin, while already without available ICUs have been left «Sotiria», «Evangelismos» and «Sismanoglio», the hospitals of the vanguard. Few beds remain free in «Thriasio», «Asclepion», «Elpis», »KAT«, »Agia Olga«, »Red Cross«, »G. Gennimatas" and NIMTS.

In recent hours, two scenarios have been circulating regarding the strengthening of the NHS - which will be announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias.

There is talk of including military hospitals in the battle of the pandemic, as well as the the possibility of an order for private clinics.
