15 months of abandonment of Tritsis Park by the Administration

The serious problems (electric lighting, water sufficiency, equipment supply, staff recruitment, etc.), which undermine the operation of Tritsis Park and the responsibilities of the Administration of the Region, is brought to the fore by the Power of Life, asking the Regional Authority to discuss the issue immediately at the Regional Council. The Life Force deplores the continuing indifference and the defiant lack of political will of the current Administration, which is also the supervisor of the Management Body of the Park «Antonis Tritsis», to address and solve the problems of the Park 15 months after taking office.

In its request for discussion at the Regional Council, Dynami Zois sounds the alarm for the abandonment of the largest Environmental Awareness Park in the Balkans and a unique lung of life, not only for Western Athens but for Attica as a whole. This sad finding requires immediate action by the Administration to improve its infrastructure, to ensure its operational and financial viability, away from the logic of extreme commercialization, integrated in the logic of cost-benefit, while ensuring its public and metropolitan character.

In particular, the Life Force denounces 6 serious problems and malfunctions of the Park related to omissions and omissions of the Administration:

1. The programmatic contract between ASDA, the Region and the Park Authority, amounting to 250.000,00 euros for the electric lighting, which had been initiated by the management of the Power of Life faction, was lost because the deadline for signing a programme contract expired. There must be restoration, extension of lighting throughout the Park.
2. Direct ensuring sufficient water to meet irrigation needs of the Park. The drilling of the «Pressi» well, which supplies the Park with 1,000 cubic metres of water per 24 hours, is not a permanent solution.
3. We need to proceed with the waterproofing of all ponds and water recycling to them.
4. The installation fire detection and fire safety system, as well as the existence of a Park guard will contribute to the sense of security of the citizens and the protection of the Park.
5. It is understood that it is a sufficient and necessary condition that recruitment of the necessary permanent qualified technical and other staff required. The problem cannot be solved by occasional secondments of officials as is currently the case. We also need to answer the question of whether the Park Management Body has recruited scientific and technical staff and how many, and how many in number.
6. The Park Management Body is needed obtain the necessary equipment, motor vehicles, machinery, etc.

Faced with this situation, and in order to prevent it from further deteriorating, Life Force calls for:

1. the inclusion of the serious problems of Antonis Tritsis Park on the agenda of the next Regional Council,
2. that the Administration of the Region, as the supervisor of the Management Body of the Park «Antonis Tritsis», finally give answers regarding when and how it will finally deal with the resolution of the Park's problems.

«This special and precious green lung must be accessible and open to all citizens. The protection and enhancement of this metropolitan park can be a crucial tool in raising awareness of environmental issues and contributing to efforts to tackle climate change.», notes in its request, the Life Force.

It is recalled that the Administration of Life Force in the Region, in the context of the integrated approach to issues related to environmental protection and the consequences of the climate crisis, had proceeded to support and upgrade the Park, with a series of interventions such as the funding of 700.000,00 euros from the own resources of the Region, the launching of a project to enhance the lighting, etc.
