Την Πέμπτη 1 Ιουνίου 2023 η γκαλερί «follow your art» σας προσκαλεί στην πρώτη έκθεση της καλοκαιρινής σεζόν, με τίτλο «Fragments of Kythera». Στην έκθεση παρουσιάζονται εικαστικά έργα 10 μελών της ορχήστρας Allcomers String Orchestra, τα οποία έχουν δημιουργηθεί, κατά κύριο λόγο, με φυσικά υλικά από το Καψάλι.
Η αφίσα της φετινής έκθεσης αποτελεί δημιουργία της ομάδας και απεικονίζει στοιχεία συνδεδεμένα με τη διαμονή τους στο νησί των Κυθήρων: το πέτρινο πάτωμα στο στούντιο στου Βάρδα που χρησιμοποιούν ως εργαστήριο, φυλλαράκια και θραύσματα μπαμπού οργανωμένα σε πεντάγραμμο – συμβολίζοντας την αρχή μιας μουσικής σύνθεσης.
Η ορχήστρα Allcomers είναι ένα πολυεθνικό σύνολο με μέλη που φέτος προέρχονται από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, την Ιρλανδία, τη Γερμανία και τη Νορβηγία. Επισκέπτεται το νησί τα τελευταία 18 χρόνια, για μια εβδομάδα προβών με απώτερο σκοπό μια δημόσια συναυλία στο τέλος της διαμονής τους. Οι πρόβες γίνονται πρωί και βράδυ καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας στο αμφιθέατρο Ζείδωρος. Η τελική συναυλία φέτος θα είναι στον Σύνδεσμο στη Χώρα, το Σάββατο 3 Ιουνίου, στις 8 μ.μ. Για δύο από τα μουσικά κομμάτια, την ορχήστρα Allcomers θα συνοδεύουν μέλη του Κοινοτικού Συνόλου Εγχόρδων Κυθήρων, που ιδρύθηκε από την Allcomers Music το 2019. Την Τετάρτη 31 Μαΐου στις 8 μ.μ. στο χώρο της Φιλαρμονικής στον Ποταμό, θα πραγματοποιηθεί η συναυλία των δασκάλων της ομάδας σε ένα σπουδαίο πρόγραμμα μουσικής δωματίου. Οι Florence Cooke και Danaï Loukadi στο βιολί, Ruth Gibson στη βιόλα και Abel Selacoe στο τσέλο είναι μουσικοί διακεκριμένοι τόσο στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία όσο και διεθνώς.
Η πρωτοβουλία Allcomers Orchestra προέκυψε από την ενασχόληση του Chris Shurety με την ορχήστρα East London Late Starters, την οποία ίδρυσε το 1983. Αναγνωρίζοντας την έκφραση μέσω της μουσικής ως θεμελιώδη ανθρώπινη ανάγκη, ο στόχος ήταν, και παραμένει, να επιτρέψει σε οποιονδήποτε να συμμετάσχει στην ομάδα ως ενεργός μουσικός, και για την επίτευξη αυτού του στόχου παρέχεται δομημένη διδασκαλία εγχόρδων οργάνων. Το Κοινοτικό Σύνολο Εγχόρδων Κυθήρων έχει συσταθεί με τους ίδιους ακριβώς στόχους και, κατά συνέπεια, είναι ανοιχτό σε όλους όσους ζουν και εργάζονται στα Κύθηρα.

“Follow your art” gallery invites you to the opening of the first of its summer exhibitions. “Fragments of Kythera” presents a wide range of work created by 10 members of the Allcomers String Orchestra, working in the main with materials found lying around in Kapsali.
The exhibition poster, a creation of the group, depicts elements connected to their stay on the island of Kythera; the stone floor in the studio in Vardas which they use as an art studio together with discarded bamboo fencing organised in a stave symbolising the beginning of a musical composition.
The Allcomers Orchestra is a multinational ensemble with members this year coming from the UK, Ireland. Germany and Norway. For the past 18 years it has organised a week of rehearsals in preparation for a public concert on the Saturday at the end of their stay. Rehearsals are held morning and evening throughout the week in the Zeidoros amphitheatre. The final concert this year will be in Syndesmos in Chora, starting at 8:00pm. For two of the pieces of music, the Allcomers Orcestra will be joined by members of the Kythira Community String Ensemble, established by Allcomers Music in 2019. On Wednesday 31st May at 8:00pm, in the Philarmoniki in Potamos, there is a concert given by the tutors of the Allcomers Orchestra; Florence Cooke and Danaï Loukadi (violins), Ruth Gibson (viola) and Abel Selacoe (cello). We can promise a stunning programme of chamber music presented by some of the finest musicians in Europe.
The Allcomers Orchestra initiative arose out of Chris Shurety’s involvement in the East London Late Starters Orchestra, which he set up in 1983. Recognising music making as a fundamental human need, the aim was (and remains) to enable anyone to participate in music as an active musician, an aim achieved by providing structured teaching of string instruments. The Kythera Community String Ensemble has been established with precisely the same aims and, accordingly is open to all those living and working on Kythera.
