Two individuals of Greek descent have been taken into custody by the Athens Police Headquarters and are being questioned regarding their involvement in Fourthiotis’s plans, which were recently the subject of a public accusation by journalist Kostas Vaxevanis. The first individual was located and taken to the Security Division at 2:30 a.m.
This individual is known to the police; his name, with the initial “S.”, is available to the newspaper. The second individual was located at 8:30 a.m. and was taken to the Extortion Division of the Athens Security Police. He is a well-known figure in the nightlife scene whose last name begins with the letter P.
The two are being investigated in connection with the shooting at Menios Fourthiotis’s home on the evening of April 16. They are also being investigated for the clash with officers from the Zeus Unit in Ekali in the early morning hours of the same day, as well as for their possible involvement in plotting the murder of journalist Kostas Vaxevanis.
The journalist gave a statement to the Extortion Division of the Attica Security Police on the evening of Monday, April 26, where he confirmed under oath what he had previously reported publicly. Specifically, that on April 6 (three days before the murder of G. Karaivaz), someone had informed him, in the presence of journalist Vangelis Triantis, that Fourthiotis was looking for hitmen in the nightlife scene to shoot at his house in order to justify the removal of his police detail and also to «take out» two journalists, one of whom was K. Vaxevanis.
Based on the information received by Documento reporters, Vangelis Triantis informed the head of the Athens Public Prosecutor’s Office. The police identified the two individuals based on evidence found in a bag they had discarded during their clash with the DIAS unit in Ekali.
It appears that the markings on the shell casings from the Kalashnikov used in the shooting at Fourthiotis’s home match those on the shell casings found after the clash with the police. One of the individuals in custody appears to be a member of the former gang led by convicted felon Panagiotis Vlastos.
