Several of the most significant projects in the history of Kythira began in the 1980s. The new 1,500-meter runway at the airport, the port at Diakofto, and the new road in Diakofto. A decisive factor in these projects was the contribution of politician Grigoris Lambrinos Kasimatis, a native of Fratsia, Kythira. Grigoris Kasimatis, who served as a member of parliament for PASOK, as well as a close associate of the movement’s president and Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, helped his hometown from whatever political position he held, promoting major, significant projects.
In the video below, from the digital archive of TTV Kythira, you can see the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fratsioton Cultural Center, which today houses the municipal daycare center, guesthouses, and offices. This project was carried out at the initiative of the residents of Fratsiotes.
