What were the causes of death in Kythera in the 18th century

Eleni Harou compiles a list of some causes of death during the 18th century by consulting the parish death records on Kythira.

Noteworthy are the cases of women who died in childbirth or during the postpartum period. In such cases, women were not buried in the main church, but in the women’s section of the church, at a time when there were no municipal cemeteries and parishioners were buried inside the church or in its courtyards.
