It is a sad, if not infuriating, sight that greets every visitor to the island—as well as its residents—at the pier of the port of Diakofto.
Three confiscated sailboats have been abandoned for nearly a year, resulting in what you see in the pictures. One of them has sunk. In addition to aesthetic and utilization considerations regarding the confiscated vessels, there are also health-related concerns.
A few months ago, we received a report regarding a foul odor at the site and the presence of rodents that are now living inside the boats.
A little interest never hurts, after all. We're talking about the island's gateway, and everyone can see us.
