In several settlements of Kythera, residents face a critical challenge: the problematic operation of the water supply. The lawyer Vassilis Spiliotopoulos, who lives in Kythera, raises his voice, expressing the frustration and concern of the residents. With a strict tone, but also characterizations appeal to the Greek Government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally, he calls for intervention in the solution of the problem, accusing the Mayor of Kythera for his inadequacy. As it denounces, it calls for the imposition of legality and resistance to the arbitrariness of a mayor who remains unaffected by the anguish of citizens. Read the complaint as he posted it on his personal Facebook account:
«Appeal to the official Greek State.
To the Prime Minister and the Government.
Kythera 2024 - at the mercy of a Maduriskou.
Kythera in 2024 has been left at the mercy of - I wonder whose? But of a mayor who constantly boasts, turns against every protest, discrediting and insulting the citizens, hiding and not fulfilling his basic obligations towards the citizens and visitors of the island.
A Lilliputian hegemonism characterized not by bonapartism, but by a cheeky Madurismo. For weeks settlements without water. The sewage system in a bad state. At the same time money is wasted on window dressing without any real impact.
The poor residents cry out, but he ignores them and mocks them to their faces without any shame or empathy.
Doesn't the state finally have to intervene?;
Prime Minister, my friend Kyriakos, in Kythera the image of the Greek State is being tarnished in the worst way. The concept of local government is being ridiculed and discredited by a municipal authority that not only does not respect - but on the contrary ignores and calls upon citizens to be silent in the face of its incompetence and irrationality.
It is a challenge to vulgarity versus cohabitation and political decency.
Residents are simply asking for the obvious - the basic amenities of a favoured state. We call for the enforcement of the rule of law against the arbitrariness and vulgarity of a Madurisscu. As we all know, every copy of the obscene is more obscene than the original...»
In another Facebook post, Mr.Spiliotopoulos writes:
Once Kythera symbolized the ideal. Today, the municipal authority devalues the island to nothing, devalues the role of local government in deepening democracy. It is simply mouthing off to the citizens.
This year has left entire villages and districts without water August month. The problem of water shortage is not due to water scarcity but due to mismanagement by the municipal authority. In recent years, millions of funds have been wasted on meaningless projects, while the real problems of the island have been left to their own devices. The water network is outdated with constant leaks, the sewerage system is broken down with the River constantly suffering etc etc. Instead of the municipal authority embracing and assisting the citizens who are suffering from a lawsuit of its own making, instead it accuses them of complaining and blames them with ironies, cheap excuses and airs. The straw man of politics in all its glory.».
