The famous actor Johnny Depp testified today that he never hit his ex-wife, Amber Hurd and is contesting her charges in a $50 million defamation case, in part to protect his children from false information about his conduct.
Speaking in a low tone and calmly, Depp told a Virginia court that he was in «absolute shock» six years ago when Hurd «made some pretty heinous and unpleasant» accusations that he had engaged in violent behavior during their relationship.
«I never went so far as to hit Mrs. Hurd in any way, nor have I ever hit any woman in my life,» Depp said.
«I felt it was my responsibility to defend not only myself before this court, but to defend my children,» Depp said. His two children from a previous relationship were in high school at the time, he noted.
