I have been following with surprise for some time now the exchange of arguments and sometimes indirect threats regarding the fate of a certain part of the property of the Trifyllion Foundation of Kythera in Alimos.
I know the history and the depth of the relationship between Alimos and Kythera, an experiential, lifelong relationship as a large number of Kythirians have combined their survival with this beautiful suburb of South Athens, as part of the internal migration that has taken place in our country in recent decades. The reasons are many and valid. What is certain is that the Kythirians have prospered there too, created families and jobs, acquired property, even with welfare and social care for the future, and have been and are an important element of Alimos society. Of course the interest for the Special Homeland, Kythera, remained and continues to remain great, as is the case with Kytherians everywhere, with actions and not fat words.
But now, on the occasion of the development of the way of utilization of this particular property, owned by the Trifyllion Foundation... - Cultural Center or apartments - they are in danger of being blown up, with serious consequences - apart from many others - even of human relations, possibly, as I read about the uninterrupted operation of the Kythera Nursing Home, with whatever significance such an event would have for the whole of Kythera society... At the same time it seems that another issue of division has arisen in the small Society of Kythera - and not only - which is not so unusual in recent years.
My intervention was primarily caused by the image of complete division on the part of Kythera, the lack of responsible information and the basic lack of coordination, with knowledge of the issue and prestige of leadership, in order to mitigate as far as possible the different approaches and to follow a unified course.
In no way are we overlooking the difficult and complex legal, property and financial issues, but we are referring here to the possibility of better management of the case and who should take the initiative. In Kythera, then, the exact opposite is happening to what is happening in Alimos. There, everyone is coordinated in one direction... with a strong and firm will, the Municipal Council, the Municipal Authority, the Mayor, the Municipal Factions, the Deputy Mayors (with articles in the media), the residents and the continuous presence of the Mayor himself, even at meetings of residents on the issue. What are they doing here? The Municipality of Alimos is of course directly involved, but this does not mean that the indirect involvement of our own Municipality is of less importance. The stakes are just as important or even greater. After all, for two twinned municipalities with a high level of relations, only positive elements can result from an attempt at understanding. I repeat, the opposition is strong and, in the strict sense of words and terms, well-founded ... But it is one thing to go the extra mile on such a serious issue - as is legitimate, morally and practically, to protect the interests of Kythera and not those of some private individuals - and another to sit back and watch impassively, hiding behind bureaucratic notions. Because, as it is understood, an unfavourable and uncontrolled development of the matter opens up a series of new issues, in relation to the very sustainability of Infrastructure and Services in Kythera, with all that this implies. And the questions that arise inevitably call for answers.
Is the City Council aware of the extent of this issue and what it intends to do about it?;
What are the positions and proposals of the Municipal Groups?;
Does the Municipal Council know in depth the property status of the Kythera Nursing Home?;
Is there any information from the Trifillion or has the Trifillion ever been called by the City Council to inform the House?;
Is there cooperation between the Municipality and Trifyllion for the exploitation of assets for the benefit of all? (e.g. the old hospital).
The questions are critical and urgent and must be answered now... Only then will there be hope for a better future in this sector too.
The times are dark...!!!!!
