The news of the death of the 27-year-old corporal of the National Guard, Natalys Neofytou, who was killed when the jeep she was riding in overturned in the area of the Kornos camp, shocks the whole country.
The accident occurred in the context of a motorcycle driving training exercise conducted within the E.F. camp.In the jeep, besides the Corporal SYOP, an officer and a private were on board. The 27-year-old woman was taken to Nicosia Hospital, where, despite the superhuman efforts of the doctors, she could not be kept alive.
The conscript soldier and the reserve officer cadet received first aid at the Larnaca General Hospital, where they were discharged without any serious injury.
An investigation was ordered to establish the causes of the accident. The scene of the accident has been cordoned off and the assistance of the police has been sought to investigate the incident.
Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides expressed his sincere condolences to the family and relatives of SYOP.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus issued a statement on the tragic incident:
«In the context of a training motor driving conducted within a National Guard camp, a serious accident occurred resulting in the serious injury of 27-year-old Corporal SYOP Natalys Neophytou.
During the training, under circumstances that are being investigated at 11:00 am, the jeep-type vehicle in which the SYOP along with a Cadet Reserve Officer and a conscript soldier was riding overturned. The 27 year old woman was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital where despite the efforts of the doctors on duty she could not be kept alive.
The conscript soldier and the Cadet Reserve Officer were transferred to Larnaca General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged without any serious injury.
An investigation was ordered to establish the causes of the accident. The scene of the accident has been cordoned off and the assistance of the police has been sought to investigate the incident.»
