Anargyros Sofios, Kythira City Council member and leader of the minority opposition, issued the following statement regarding the issue of sunken sailboats in Diakofto:
«As elected members of the opposition, we have two main goals: first, to point out the administration’s mistakes or omissions while proposing solutions, and second, to take action to resolve problems. At the first City Council meeting, the issue of the sunken sailboats in Diakofto came to the forefront once again. The municipal authorities’ responses were candid: the necessary documents have not yet been sent to the Kythira Port Authority by the Ministry of National Defense, the Hellenic Navy General Staff, and three different departments within the ministry.
Maritime Affairs. In consultation with the Commander of the Kythira Port Authority, we coordinated the necessary actions and ensured that all outstanding signatures were obtained. I then informed the president of the Kythira Port Fund of the above, and thanks to his immediate response, the necessary funds were allocated (since that is the only source of funding available) so that the sunken vessels in question can be salvaged and scrapped by summer. Cooperation among all stakeholders always serves the best interests of the community.».
