Metropolitan Kosmas of Aetolia and Acarnania has passed away following his battle with the coronavirus. Metropolitan Kosmas was admitted to the Agrinio Hospital on December 1, when his health was already in a very serious condition.
After 25 days on a ventilator in the ICU at Evangelismos Hospital, he was extubated, and his condition was stable but remained critical.
The 76-year-old metropolitan had also undergone a tracheostomy. The Metropolitan had not been vaccinated. His sister, who also died of COVID-19 a few days ago, had not been vaccinated either.
Biography
Metropolitan Kosmas Papachristos of Aetolia and Acarnania was born in Skoutesiada, Agrinio, in 1945. He studied Political Science at Panteion University in Athens and Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, earning a degree in both fields.
He was ordained a deacon and presbyter by the late Metropolitan Theoklitos of Aetolia and Acarnania in 1974. He served as a preacher for the Holy Metropolis of Aetolia and Acarnania for more than thirty years and was deeply involved in a wide range of activities. He was consecrated Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania on October 8, 2005.
