Statement by the Mayor regarding the complaint filed by forestry official Stavros Arvanitis:
«The recent baseless public allegations made by forestry official Mr. St. Arvanitis come as a surprise to me, as they implicate my name and me personally in fabricated accusations against the office of the official in question, with which I have NO CONNECTION, if and to the extent that they actually occurred.
I don't care who Mr. Arvanitis supports for mayor, and I don't even know if he votes on our island or not.
However, since I will not tolerate my name being implicated in such matters—which, curiously enough, are being made public just four days before the election —I am compelled to immediately request a criminal investigation into the allegations, so that Mr. Arvanitis can substantiate his claims with evidence.
Anyone who thinks they can win the election through slander, fabrications, and provocations is deluding themselves.
