In a post on his personal Facebook account, the Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Charhalakis, informed residents about repairs being made to the water supply network in Agia Pelagia. Read his post:
Today, on the eve of August 15, seven people (municipal employees, private plumbers, and the ever-present Deputy Mayor P. Zantiotis), did everything in their power to repair two very serious faults in the water supply network of Agia Pelagia. THESE CHILDREN ARE OUR TREASURE! To repair the faults, the system had to be drained, as there is no other method. The system is now back in service; however, the water may be cloudy for a short while until pressure is fully restored. This fall, the major project to construct a new water supply network in Agia Pelagia will begin; the project has been put out to bid, and the contract will be signed shortly. The project has a budget of €3,100,000 and is funded by the Region of Attica, while our Municipality conducted the entire bidding process. With the completion of this major project, combined with the two desalination plants currently in the bidding process, we hope to minimize future problems. These projects require a great deal of time for planning and development, for obtaining permits, and for the bidding process. They do not happen overnight, nor with wishful thinking or magic wands.
